How to Polish a Piano Piece For Performance

Posted by afgondaviek on Settembre 2, 2010

If you’ve been reading my articles for some time now, you know I’m all about ‘process.’ That is, I place more importance on being in the moment and experiencing the music first hand.

But… what if you want to perform your music for others? Or, what if you want to create a CD of your music? What then? You have to ‘polish’ your pieces! So, how do you do that? Let me explain how I do it.

First, I won’t begin to polish a piece until it ‘gels.’ This simply means that the piece, for all intents and purposes is finished. Once it’s at this stage, I go for slow practice and aim for working on passages or parts that give me trouble. I usually don’t have this problem because most music in the New Age piano style is relatively easy. But don’t let that fool you! Slow and easy pieces can be the hardest to play since what you’re going for is expression of emotion.

When I was working on my CD “La Jolla Suite,” for example, I would play the piece through 3 times without stopping. I would do this for all the music. Then, if I were working up to performance, I would play the music exactly as it would be live for people.

Make no mistake… working up music for a performance or a recording can be hard work. It can even get grueling as you subconsciously prepare yourself for the task at hand.

But the rewards are worth it. Once ‘polished’ you can now perform the music whenever you want – that is if you don’t take too long a break.

The cool thing about the New Age piano style is that it’s not nearly as difficult to do this as say, in the classical world where some practice for 12 + hours on end to perfect the music. As always, perfection isn’t the goal – communication is.

What Baby Safety Equipment Should You Use?

Posted by afgondaviek on Settembre 2, 2010

Having a baby is a wonderful gift of life but it also means that your heart is always going as you worry about your child especially if it is your first time and he or she is very little and needs maximum attention and care. On one hand it is nearly impossible to keep an eye on the baby all of the time but on the other good care involves you on a permanent watch. To gain peace of mind means that you need to feel that you know where your little one is and what he or she is doing, to help you with this there are several modern devices especially designed to assist you.

Monitoring systems

Nowadays there is a wide selection of baby items which help parents to provide the necessary safety to their children. One of these most helpful devices is a baby monitor. It gives you a wonderful watchful ear on your baby or toddler even when they are not near you. Such a device makes your parenting life far easier and is a great relaxation aid. However, you shouldn’t pop into the nursery every time you hear them murmur get to know their normal noises at first you will want to check on the baby to see if he or she is waking up but time will show when you must give the attention that is necessary.

There are now monitoring systems which have sound and video images and will let you have a view of the child’s activities and alert when he or she is having any problem. Again some children even can be woken by your too much care occasioned by popping into the children bedroom. There are plenty of types and styles of monitoring systems to choose form and I am sure there is one which will meet your requirements. The children room is not the only place mothers want to supervise. You would certainly not like your child to play around in the kitchen near hot stove and sharp objects. Your own kitchen can become a place of your supervision vie the monitor.

Buying a baby safety monitoring device

Buying a baby safety monitoring device choose the one which comes equipped with at least two receivers so that both the parents can keep one. The monitor should be battery operated to be portable so you can carry it anywhere with you. It is highly recommended.

It is wise for you to check the ability of the device to be able to change frequencies as many household appliances and devices like televisions, radio can distort interfere with some frequencies being used.

When your baby is very little it is only enough to know what is happening in his or her bedroom while the child is sleeping, because all the rest time when the little one is awake you spend with him or her. When the child grows bigger it is not enough only to hear the toddler but it gives you much piece of mind if you also can keep an eye on the infant.

Any kind of baby safety products are available in our internet baby shop starting with baby safety furniture, beddings and ending with baby monitoring systems.

Technology Overview

DURABrite Ultra pigment ink
The Epson C88+ uses DURABrite Ultra ink, a revolutionary, pigment-based ink that delivers superior image quality for all kinds of projects.

Beautiful
With revolutionary DURABrite Ultra ink, users can achieve remarkable results on glossy photo paper, matte paper and even plain copy paper. With such exceptional quality and versatility, DURABrite Ultra ink offers the ideal solution for nearly any printing project, from high quality enlargements to everyday text and graphics. Double-sided prints look great because the ink will not bleed through. And, when you use Epson Premium Presentation Paper Double-sided Matte, you can make your own professional-looking brochures.

Durable

Smudge resistant
Like all Epson ink, DURABrite Ultra features a quick-drying formula that enables you to touch documents and photos right after printing–without any messy smudging. With worry-free handling, you can share prints immediately, unlike those printed with some competitive inks that smudge easily and take several minutes to dry.

Fade resistant
The special formulation of DURABrite Ultra ink also offers fade resistant properties that exceed those of photo lab prints, as well as those printed on many competitive products. In fact, with this remarkable ink, photos can resist fading up to 100 years!2

Water resistant
Your prints will be water resistant on all supported papers (even plain paper!). Because DURABrite Ultra ink is pigment-based, ink particles will not dissolve if they come into contact with water. So, prints resist smearing or accidental damage by spills or moisture.

Paper handling capacity
The Epson C88+ has a high-capacity, 120-sheet input tray that holds various paper sizes, up to 8.5″ x 14″.

Connectivity
The printer can be connected to multiple computers using its built-in USB and parallel ports. Plus, it can switch between ports automatically. The Epson C88+ can also be connected to different platforms simultaneously, including Macintosh and Windows-based systems.

1. Pages per minute (ppm) speed measured after first page, based on black and color text patterns in Draft Mode on plain paper. Additional print time will vary based on system configuration, software application and page complexity. See www.epson.com/printspeed for more information about print speed.
2. Fade resistance rating is based on accelerated testing of prints on specialty media, displayed indoors under glass or UV filter. Actual print stability will vary according to media, printed image, display conditions, light intensity, humidity and atmospheric conditions. Epson does not guarantee longevity of prints. For maximum print life, display all prints under glass or UV filter or properly store them. Visit www.wilhelm-research.com for the latest information.

The Top 10 Best Horror Movie Monsters

Posted by afgondaviek on Settembre 1, 2010

Let us straight to the point … or right to the screaming, because many people prefer to cut this list! Not only am I married to a top home dweller, I am a big fan of horror films (including films like monsters) for years. In my experience as a fan of the genre, the monsters here are my top ten of all time!

10th Octopus (1981)

Clash of the Titans since 1981, this is a creature that awakens the imagination. Although the octopus is a creature of myth, is the filmVersion that everyone remembers. Who can forget the final scene of the original Clash of the Titans, where the octopus is Andromeda? (He wanted for me it is not clear. I intend to eat? Download them for a swim?) Anyway, Kraken to life, stop-motion animation of Ray Harryhausen, has launched a legend in horror and fantasy films . The image of the Perseus turning the Kraken into stone is classic and so is the monster in the opinion of most armies.

NinthCreature from the Black Lagoon (all versions)

There are many films on marine life was scary, but a monster from the Black Lagoon is still the best. (Sorry, Jaws!) Published in 1954, a monster like Gill-Man for a shipment discovered in the Amazon. How many famous screen monsters, the creature created by continuations. The creation of the film Black Lagoon will be released for the remake of 2011, according to the IMDB site.

8th Mummy(Boris Karloff)

Boris Karloff makes his first appearance on our list! The Mummy, directed by Karl Freund, is a horror movie from Universal Studios in 1932. Karloff who played as an Egyptian priest named Imhotep resurrected. While the film is not a drop-dead terrify down, is a classic that is the collective memory of our society. When people think of mummies, they think Karloff always shuffling his sarcophagus in bandages. The mummy was rebuilt in the semi-The Mummy's Hand(1940), but Karloff version was that the film began mummy.

Seventh Michael Myers (all versions)

Michael Myers is the one who started the slasher genre. He first showed in 1978's Halloween as a boy who kills his older sister, and then returns home years later to kill again. His battles with Jamie Lee Curtis on the first two Halloween movies are perfect examples of how Scary Movie pursuits should work. Although, I think Michael struggles with Donald Pleasence (who plays Dr.Loomis) were the best parts of the movie Halloween. The only negative aspects of Halloween movies for me are the problems of continuity. For example, Halloween III, although not a bad film, it has nothing to do with the other tranches. Even Halloween H20: 20 years later, almost ignored established continuity with the previous film without any explanation.

Sixth Dracula (Bela Lugosi)

Bela Lugosi was a Hungarian actor, best to play Count Dracula in the Broadway comedy classic knownUniversal Studios Dracula film as well. The by-now classic Dracula, Lugosi a star who came in 1931. Although the film is a bit 'slower and not as exciting as other classic Universal films such as Frankenstein, Lugosi run the movie. No matter how many vampire movies are made, this is also the most memorable. Ask anyone who Dracula is, and immediately think, Bela's Dracula. His Dracula is an icon.

Fifth Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund)

Robert Englund is best knownfor playing serial killer Freddy Krueger in Nightmare on Elm Street film series. According to Wikipedia, was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor for A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors in 1987 and A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master in 1988. I'm not surprised. He was named Freddy. The new Freddy can not hold a candle, or squalid red sweater for Englund. Freddy game approached with a mixture of horror and comedy. His witty jokes with hisSacrifice is the legend.

Wolfman fourth (Lon Chaney Jr.)

"Even a man who is pure of heart and says his prayers by night may become a wolf when the Wolfbane blooms in autumn and the moon is bright now."

When talking about werewolves, there is no one better than Wolfman Lon Chaney in 1941 Universal Studios film. From legendary make-up to the curse of the gypsies, and Chaney Wolfman, the company knows best, and with good reason – it's a damn good movie that is the test ofTime.

The third Frankenstein monster (Boris Karloff)

I really write that the appearance of Boris Karloff's Frankenstein monster is a classic essence of cinema? The crash of thunder, the lab machines buzzing, the hand of the monster moved, these are the images that we all have embedded in our minds. No version of Frankenstein's monster is better than the version of the classic horror film is Karloff 1931

According Leatherface (all versions)

Leatherface is the mainThe serial killer in horror movie Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Wearing masks of his victims skin (this is where the name comes from Leatherface) and is the character in the movie, which usually translates into a chainsaw. Leatherface is not only one of the first slasher villain-type, but it is drop-dead scary! While I think all versions of Leatherface is scary as hell, were the best actors Gunnar Hansen Leatherface (Texas Chainsaw Massacre from the former) and Bill Johnson (The Texas ChainsawMassacre 2). I still think the scene Massacre 2, Leatherface chainsaw while running screaming from the radio station obscured in American women is appalling.

Before Jason Voorhees (all versions)

Sure, Jason Kane Hodder has played more than any other actor, but I can not choose Jason, which is better than others. Each actor plays the undead slasher Jason Voorhees brought something new to the role. Jason Voorhees is the killer from Friday the 13th Series. His firstappeared in Friday the 13th (1980), although it was not bad the first film. Jason is a great character because of the iconic hockey mask, setting field of fear, and why we feel a certain sympathy for him. It was a deformed child who was ridiculed by colleagues and ignored by the field advisor. He loves his mom. (See the film and see what I mean.) Evokes sympathy because the audience is a bit 'like Frankenstein's monster, but certainly moreEvil.

I agree with my choice? I do not agree with me? Leave a comment. And remember to look over your shoulder when you walk in the woods at night. Children may on stalking.

A Prayer For the New Year

Posted by afgondaviek on Settembre 1, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

In print and on television we see retrospectives of the past year and find many predictions for the coming 12 months. So I was thinking of doing my own version in a prayer to the One Who controls both sides of the time coin.

Dear Lord:

Can you even imagine what we have been doing down here these past days? Well, of course you can. You are All-Knowing so I am sure you must be All-Imagining as well. What I mean is, how about the mess we are in, huh? In a season where we are celebrating the generous gift of your only child to save our sorry souls, we are still in the midst of wars, genocide and greed. The world is facing a financial crisis of historic proportion, and some guy used a Ponzi scheme (is he related to the guy from Happy Days?) to cash in on that deadly sin of avarice. Our government is passing out money faster than the ink can dry to “save” companies that then send their top dogs to luxury spas, on MY DIME! Some religions are still using your Name as an excuse to kill. I will never figure that one out. And in the US of A, we continue to knock off about a million and a half before they even get a chance to take their first breath.

The Dark One seems to have a pretty good grip on things these days.

But then you can read about how people ride around in cities and hand out tens of thousands in cash to people down on their luck. Food drives and clothing drives and charitable donations are up this year, even as we ponder what may be a bleak future. I saw a gym full of canned goods and coats empty out in half a day, and that scene was reproduced in countless gyms and community centers throughout the land. So we are not all bad down here. Everywhere you look, people do things that seem to take the edge off the news of greed and corruption, acts of kindness and love and good will.

Speaking of will. You gave us Free Will. There’s another one we need to talk about when (if!) I make it through those Pearly Gates. You one-up Santa Claus on that one, not only knowing when we’re bad or good, but knowing when we’ll be bad or good even before we are. And then when we screw up, we can rely on your Son’s sacrifice to find forgiveness. Now that’s what I call a bailout!

But back to the future.

We have a new leader of the free world in our next president. How do you think he will do? Can he bring our country out of its woes? Will he be able to fix our economy, thus helping that of the whole world? And more importantly, will he be able to get the Cubs to the World Series?

I know, I know. The past is history, the future’s a mystery, today is a gift. That’s why we call it “The Present.” So I guess I need to turn to the words of your Present to us as we face 2009 and beyond, when he said, “Be not afraid.”

Thanks for listening,

Tom
